VERNACULAR SCHOOL JUDGEMENT AT KUALA LUMPUR HIGH COURT

29 December 2021

Federal Constitution expressly protected teaching in mother tongues other than Bahasa Malaysia under Articles 152 (1) (a) and (b) of the Federal Constitution.

Three NGOs initiated a lawsuit to push the government to abolish Vernacular schools in Malaysia, Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung (GPMS), the Islam Education Development Council (MAPPIM) and the Confederation of Malaysian Writers Association (GAPENA).

Vernacular schools are educational institutions under the Education Act 1996 and are not public or statutory authorities. GHRF together with Coalition of NGOs, Gabungan SEKAT National would like to thank Justice Datuk Mohd Nazlan, KL High Court Judge and our good team of lawyers for upholding the Federal Constitution and the right of the Minorities in this nation.
